tiling

One of the major projects in our lives right now is finishing our basement. It's going to have a bedroom, family room, and a bathroom (plus some closets, and a hallway). This weekend, we worked on tiling the shower. Mark (my brother, who lived with us for the last year, but will be leaving soon to learn to be a doctor. boo.) started tiling while we were away visiting family, and showed us how to do it when we got back. We're not as good at it as he is, but we're learning.

We're using slate tile, which has the potential to look cool, but is a bit of a pain. The tiles have lots of variation. They vary in color, which is cool, but they're also different thicknesses, and can be pretty uneven, which makes it difficult to get everything even and smooth. Maybe we should have done our first tiling job with some easier materials, but what fun would that be?

We're almost done with the shower, as you can see, then we start on the floor. Posted by Picasa
